The EZ FLASH IV uses the names of the files to match a game with its save, so "Spyro - Season of Ice.gba" MUST have a matching "Spyro - Season of Ice.sav" file or else the saves won't work, as the EZ FLASH IV cannot create new files, only edit existing ones. These save files can be imported into VBA. The save files are ".sav" files with the same name as the game file it matches. If this happens multiple times, the ".gba" file will be overwritten. Occasionally, the program doesn't read the game title properly, and sends a ROM named ".gba". The program is capable of "sending" (patching, moving, and creating a save file) multiple games (about 30 at a time or so) but be careful with that. The EZ Client is fairly easy to use, just click "open", navigate to your game, open it, and click "send". Using Goomba Color to emulate GBC/GB games works fine, but it is an emulator, so some games (namely Pokemon Crystal) do not work.
Performanceįor GBA games, there seems to be no noticeable difference between using them on the flash cart, and using them on their original cartridges.
I believe the clock ingame will pause when the game is exited, and it will just continue from where it was when opened again, but I have not played a game that needs an RTC yet. There is no realtime clock (RTC) in the EZ FLASH IV, so games that use it will act a little funny. The wiping part is automatic one you pick a new game to flash to it, but flashing to NOR memory takes longer (a few minutes) than loading to PSRAM. Games loaded into NOR can be started instantly, whereas games that are loaded into PSRAM must be loaded each time you wish to play them (takes less than a minute.) The NOR memory can only hold one game at a time, so it mist be wiped and reflashed each time you want to load a game into it. Games larger than that must be loaded into the NOR memory (press select on a game instead of the A button.) There is 32MB (megabytes or mebibytes) of NOR memory. The EZ FLASH IV has 16MB (megabytes, or mebibytes) of PSRAM, so it can load into RAM any game up to that size. There are a few spelling mistakes here and there, but aside from the help file, everything is understandable in English. The flashcart supports a few languages, and the "extra help" file is entirely in Chinese. You must edit the config file of EZ Client to change the combo, as doing it in the program just crashes it. The EZ FLASH IV has a configurable button combination to reset the current game to the home screen, but I couldn't get it to work. The save folder is also limited to this, but (from what I've read online) the saves aren't affected themselves, just their names become unreadable only when in the EZ FLASH IV. The EZ FLASH IV can only display about 70 files at a time, so you have to split your collection into folders of 70.
A couple of games won't work with the EZ FLASH IV for some reason (so far, a japanese game and all of the Super Mario Advance games except the Mario World one.) Software on the Cart Itself
You have to patch each ROM with a program called EZ Client (available on their website.) No included GB/GBC emulators, so you have to use Goomba Color for those. Occasionally, it will boot to a black screen, but taking it out and putting it back in fixes that. The cartridge is slightly thicker than a normal one, and gets stuck in my GBA SP sometimes. WARNING: LONG REVIEW AHEAD! Physical Aspects and Compatibility The Everdrive is the best one I've heard, but they don't sell them on Amazon (I looked for hours when I wanted one.) I got an EZ FLASH IV on Amazon instead from a seller named mentalKase.
